This session seems to be under a bit of a cloud at the moment.
There is usually something happening on a Thursday evening, it's advertised as a 'folk night' on the pub's website and the landlady has confirmed this.
However, there have been occasions when a band has been booked without any of the regular musicians being told.
At the moment the best advice is to phone the pub before travelling to avoid disappointment.

We meet at The Old School, Church Street, Sturminster Marshall, near Wimborne, Dorset, once a month, on the dates listed on web site (usually the second Friday of the monty), from 8pm to 10.30pm.
The purpose of the sessions is to allow novice folk musicians to practice at a nice slow pace (as slow as necessary). Learning on your own at home is good but sooner or later you'll want to step out and play with other musicians.
The Old School Session is a halfway house between home and the pub sessions.
You can practice the art of playing tunes in a session environment, have some
fun, and hopefully learn a few things along the way.
There's no audience, just your fellow musicians. Even though there are a lot of tunes on the list, you only need to learn one to start with. Just sit
out the tunes you don't know and listen. Your personal tune list will
soon grow, and in time you'll be playing along with more tunes and putting sets together.
Look at the website before coming along!

DT1 1TT — West Dorset
Entry last updated on: 4th May 2023
1st Sunday from 7pm till 10pm.
It'll be mostly English folk, and mostly instrumental, but there'll be tunes from other origins and if anyone wants to sing they'll be very welcome!
It will be an acoustic event.
We're hoping to make it a friendly session for all comers, whatever their skill level and preferences. The primary aim is to enjoy ourselves!
