Tuesdays

St John's Ambulance Hall, North Road, Minehead

Folk Dance Club

A group of musicians called 'Strawberry Wine' do country dance
workshops and are booked for dances occasionally. The Club
started up in January 2002, and has become popular with a regular
group of people but newcomers are always welcome

Currently there are two fiddle players, a flautist, a melodeon
player, a recorder player who also helps with the calling, a bass
guitar player, a banjo and guitar player and a caller doing the
occasional spurt on the bodhran. Our evenings are full of fun and
if you find time, why not come along for an evening to see what we
are about.

Circle Dancing

Shipton Gorge village hall (near Bridport)

Dances are drawn mostly from the folk traditions of Britain, Israel, the Balkans and other "World Music", often to very beautiful music. They may be symbolic or frivolous, vigorous or meditative, exciting or soothing - or just plain fun! Some are active and powerful, others are very gentle and inward looking.

Dancing is in the form of a circle so no partner is required. All dances are led by an experienced teacher so no prior skill is needed either.

Everyone is welcome - any age, any sex, any dance experience or none.

Shipton Gorge Village Hall (Near Bridport)

We are a small, friendly and very informal group that meets twice monthly on a Friday (nearly always the 2nd and last Fridays but do check before setting out as it does sometimes change) Our more experienced dancers take it in turns to lead an evening and do the calling and we use recorded music most of the time.
All abilities are welcome and we'll have a warm up session on the dot of 7:30 for complete beginners to learn the basic steps. We have a short tea break and tend to adjourn to a local watering hole afterwards to chat.
